Butterflies are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful insects on earth. Watching they moving across & providing them a favourable environment to thrive is what makes their population multiply & thrive.

This idea was conceptualized & brought into reality by Mother India Forming Pvt Ltd, Jigani at their farmhouse where the empty space is now converted to beautiful butterfly garden where anyone can witness more than 50 species of butterflies in 1 place

Here is how the concept of the butterfly garden came to life

Initial planning: We wanted to be very clear about clearing a patch of vegetation for making a butterfly garden which is the worst thing anyone can do for butterflies. So we tried to retain all the existing plants & without disturbing the ecosystem there we planned to develop a 3D design which is easy for everyone to visualise

3D design: Which gave us a better clarity of how exactly a butterfly garden will look like. Our design team was really happy to design for butterfly garden as it was a new concept & was one of the 1^st project which was so colourful & enchanting to develop & bring to a 3D visual effect.

The picturization went like this, the actual space was 30*30ft a beautiful metal arch for the entrance borders of the place covered with high growing colourful flowering plants, Middle of the garden with a round stone seater with table and a gravels bed for acupressure for seating area

Pathway was planned with stepping stones with grass provided with kerala wire cut brick lining to demarcate the lawn & the plantation. Surrounding the seating area is planned with layer wise colourful plants

Plants for butterfly garden: A tough task for the Horticulture team to select suitable plants that not only attract butterflies but also should be the host to breed their population. Lot of research was made to pool the plant list which included butterfly attracting perennials like Butterfly bush, Butterfly weed, Red stripped plant, Ixora, Roses, Blue duranta, Fire bush, Thunbergia erecta, Hibiscus, Periwinkle, Golden rod etc. Butterfly attracting annuals like Marigold, Zinnias, Asters, Balsam, Gompherena. Host plants like Lemon, Curry leaf, Nerium, Nandibatlu & Milk weed. As a focal point we added Plumeria rubra which gives fragrant white flowers, Champaka, Bottle brush & Lagestromia, ground covers were planned with lantana, dwarf morning glory & coophea. Arch was beautified with passion flower creeper.

Depending on the dimension plants count was also planned & placement was decided. Design came out really good than expected which gave us confidence to execute the project at ease.

Materials procurement: Once the design was finalized we started with material procurement analysing the quality, durability & availability everything was sourced & planned to reach the site on time.

Project execution: The project execution for butterfly garden went phase by phase like initially all weeds were cleared & fresh red soil was dumped & made to set to ground by frequent tappings. Later civil work for stone seatings was planned coupled with electric work for lightings later metal arch was installed. Heavy rain helped for curing purpose & Stone seaters with table were placed after complete curing was done for 3-4 days & stepping stones were installed.

Later started with the plantation work, initially with brick bordering for plants & markings was done for plants. Plantation work started & it took 2 days to complete the entire plantation work. Later it was lawn work. The last part was the entire gardening cleaning & spreading the gravels under stone seaters

Required measures like sloping, sunlight, watering, element placement was carefully planned so that rain water will not stagnate, all plants get complete sunlight & watering & none of the elements were overlapped

During the planting only we witnessed lot of butterflies visiting the flowers which kept our confidence high & the overall execution process was smooth & was exactly like the design what was given
